About Jo

Hi! My name is Jo Jaczkowski and I like wood.

Seriously - I’ve loved wood from a young age, when I spent time at Home Depot learning the basics of woodworking with my father. My love for wood not only stemmed from working it into something new, but also from the nature that surrounds us which I explored during my many years in Scouts BSA.

Trees always followed me, something I looked to in order to have order. They grew in my heart as I began my career within Environmental Education, where it has grown into something new.

Discovering Woodturning is a craft to create and retell the stories of these trees which have stood as testaments to time. Each piece I create comes from local trees which, unfortunately, have met the end of their time with us. Bringing their story from myself to you, that is a ding dang thing I love most

Conservation Mindedness

Jo's mindfulness extends to their individual contributions to Global Climate Change. Here are just a few of the ways Jo works to reduce their overall impact.

  • All wood used in turning is used to its fullest extent. Woodshavings created while turning are used as a Carbon addition in the SEEDS Ecology & Education Centers - Organic Waste Diversion program.
  • Use of natural finish, Jo finishes all products with no petro-chemical based finishes. Most projects are finished with Baldies Friction Wax, a blend of orange juice, Mohony's Walnut Oil and Beeswax.
  • Lumber sources comes from naturally downed trees. Jo tries to only source wood after storms when it is readily available. This also aids Jo's mission to help every trees story live on.
